About Me
Rebecca Greene, MSW, LMSW, is a nonfiction self-help and children’s book author. She is the author of several self-help, education, and parenting books. She is the creator of the Fearless Food Allergy Friends children’s book series, which helps kids cope with food allergies. Her first children’s picture book and the first book in this series, My Perfect Cupcake, will be published in April. She is also the author of The Kids’ Goal-Setting Journal: Choose a Goal and Go for It! 52 Weeks of Kid-Powered Goal Setting, a goal-setting guided journal for kids that will be published in June. Her forthcoming parenting/self-help book about raising only children will be published in Spring 2022 by Familius.
Her first book, The Teenagers’ Guide to School Outside the Box (Free Spirit Publishing) describes how teens can participate in alternative learning experiences beyond the high school classroom, including internships, mentorships, and volunteering. Her second book, Law School for Dummies (Wiley Publishing) guides law school students step-by-step throughout the rigorous law school experience.
Rebecca is also a licensed social worker. She has years of professional experience working with children and families in a range of settings including leading social skills, life skills, and support groups. Rebecca graduated with a BA in English from Carleton College and an MSW from The Catholic University of America with a concentration in clinical social work. She has mainly worked in non-profits throughout her social work career.
Rebecca recently combined her interests in mental health, wellness, and writing into a new vocation and started her own small publishing company, Tabby Cat Publishing LLC. This venture has been a meaningful way to combine Rebecca’s professional experience as a social worker with her passion for writing. Rebecca also writes freelance for magazines, websites, and blogs on the topics of mental health and wellness, self-help, parenting, careers, eldercare, overcoming challenges, and social-emotional skills. She also helps therapists, authors, non-profits and other small businesses with their website content, blog writing, newsletters, editing, and other writing needs. Rebecca is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, the Independent Book Publishers’ Association, is a participant in the 2021 - 12x12 picture book challenge, several regional writers’ organizations, and attends writers’ conferences and workshops regularly.
In her free time, Rebecca volunteers as a support group leader and teaches weekly career development classes for low-income adults at a local non-profit. On the weekends, Rebecca loves being out in nature, hiking, reading both fiction and nonfiction, watching documentaries, and discovering new places to explore in the Mid-Atlantic region. She loves the beach, summertime, everything Disney, chocolate, bookstores, and spending time outdoors. Rebecca grew up in Ohio, has lived all over the Midwest, and now calls the Washington, DC metro area home. She lives with her husband, young son, and two curious Cornish Rex cats.
Five Fun Facts About Rebecca!
1. The beach is Rebecca’s all-time favorite place. She especially loves Bethany Beach, Delaware and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Her dream is to someday live by the water. She even got married on the beach in beautiful Maui, Hawaii!
2. Rebecca loves to read and tries to read one book per week, alternating between fiction and nonfiction. In fiction, she reads women’s fiction and romance novels. Her favorite genre of nonfiction is sociology. Rebecca was an English major in college but took so many sociology courses that she was almost a sociology major.
3. Rebecca’s favorite meal is a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Her husband makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches she’s ever had—they are truly restaurant quality!
4. Rebecca always dreamed of being a writer and owning a publishing company. She started writing stories in second grade and started her very first publishing business when she was eight years old. It was called “Rebecca’s Writery” and she sold all the “books” she wrote for $1 each.
5. Rebecca has been a crazy cat lady for 20 years and has always had the same cat breed – the Cornish Rex. They are an exotic cat breed with huge ears and a playful temperament. She has two Cornish Rex cats: an orange tabby cat and a lilac point kitten.
